I’m excited to share with you #MadeInAbingdon, a short film I recently made with MG Motor recently. Here’s the video, I’m in the second half but check out my pal Charlotte’s bit too:

I was thrilled when the MG Car Club got in touch with me excited about a project they were involved with along side MG Motor India, as part of a social media campaign to share stories about British Car club culture to India, where far less of a club culture exists. This is happening as the brand prepares to launch manufacturing of the new Chinese MGs in 2019 on the subcontinent.
I spent a day with Ankit, Prerana and an eight-strong film crew who visited my little garage in Walsall to record me biffing around, fitting a temperature sensor and staring blankly at the workshop manual whilst fondling an electronic distributor…

After doing some filming at the workshop we headed out onto the streets of the Wild West Midlands to film some rolling shots of the MG, including the 20 minute journey over to my parents pub in Stourbridge. We just avoided rush hour, but even so, traffic made overtaking the camera truck and then being re-overtaken by it a little difficult – especially given I had no hope of hearing the walkie talkie radio over the roar of the engine or the wind whistling past!

The director suggested it’d be nice to show my darling grandfather the car, as he hadn’t seen it before. In fact, I’d not even told him that I’d bought it! One hasty phone call later and he was appropriately briefed and waiting outside the pub on our arrival! I quickly popped inside to grab a drink for the film crew and came out to find him in the drivers seat looking for the keys!

I caught up with the film crew a few days later at MG Live, where they were putting the final touches to the stories they filmed – including Charlotte’s MGA which shares the episode with my Gem.
I had a gorgeous day showing Gem off, and the crew kindly gifted me a mug from New Delhi to say thanks for my time! It was a pleasure to work with MG Motor on their project and with over a million hits already, this video is going a long way to share the message of young member ownership to a worldwide audience, as well as promoting the MG brand in India. I wish the team much success and hope to collaborate with them in the future…I’ve actually never been to India you know…
